What is FirstNet; simply put FirstNet is the first nationwide, high-speed broadband network dedicated to public safety – our First Responders Network. This initiative grew out of the public safety community’s commitment to, and advocacy for, a dedicated network to address the communication challenges faced during 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. Consider the importance communication has in public safety. When an emergency arises, instincts kick in and you depend on the ability to contact the folks you need and depend on; that’s where the FirstNet infrastructure comes in.
Columbia, MO – November 1, 2012–Governor Jay Nixon addressed the Bluebird Network Board of Directors on November 1, 2012. Nixon was honored to be in attendance and recognized the Board members as committed visionaries and national leaders in the telecommunications field. Nixon emphasized that just as the railroads and interstates connected and transformed Missouri communities in decades past, businesses, such as Bluebird Network, are connecting and transforming Missouri with the information superhighway.
ADVA Optical Networking announced today that Bluebird Network has selected the ADVA FSP 3000 for a government-stimulus-funded project that will enable the extension of broadband services to underserved regions in Missouri. Bluebird’s Missouri Ultra-High Capacity Middle Mile Project is supported by a $45 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant from the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and a $10.5 million in-kind contribution from the state of Missouri, as well as private investors.
