Culver Students Return to Faster Internet

C-SC Implements Major Internet Upgrades

CANTON, Mo.¬–– Culver-Stockton College has just more than tripled the capacity of its Internet connection with the installation of a gigabit/second connection to the Internet. This new 1000-megabit connection from Bluebird Networks was completed this week after the installation of a fiber optic cable to the College.

“Students at Culver-Stockton College not only use the Internet for study, research and homework, but now more frequently use the connection for entertainment purposes such as Hulu, Netflix, YouTube and other network streaming applications,” said Joe Liesen, executive director of administrative systems and services.

This new connection comes at the perfect time for Culver-Stockton College because increased enrollment translates to increased Internet usage. Between administrative uses and student needs, peak Internet hours at the College go from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. To accommodate the various needs of the community, the College has also added a high-tech Internet bandwidth management device so that the bandwidth can be prioritized and distributed equally.

“We are excited about being able to provide students with the latest tools and technology for academic and entertainment purposes,” said Liesen. “We believe we have taken another critical step in providing our students an amount of that few area educational institutions can provide.”

Gigabit Internet speeds are not commonly available in the area, with the closest available location being Kansas City.
