Bluebird Network Celebrates National Women’s Equality Day

Join Bluebird Network in celebrating National Women’s Equality Day! On this day, the United States Congress passed the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting women full and equal voting rights in 1920. Every year on August 26, we commemorate this right with National Women’s Equality Day.

HISTORY – National Women’s History Alliance

At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 and passed in 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day”. The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York. The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women’s Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, and other activities.

TODAY

Women have made great strides toward equality, but there is still work to be done. Women from all over are continuously working to pave the way for generations of women to come. In the telecommunications and technology industries, specifically, there is a wide gender gap that many women and allies are trying to close. Bluebird Network strives to close that gap within our company. At the time this article was written, the Bluebird workforce being 24% female and with 33% of the sales team also being female.

Bluebird Network is proud to highlight some of the astounding women in our company – women who have dedicated their careers to the telecom and tech industry to help underserved communities get access to reliable connectivity across the Midwest.
